The range of dot-bedecked shoes, bangles, handbags and silk dresses will enter Vuittons global stores in July, when a major Kusama retrospective moves from the Tate Modern to New Yorks Whitney Museum.
A second tranche of productthis time, monogrammed leather goods decorated with Kusamas nerve drawingswill enter stores in October.
Its really charming, Marc Jacobs told WWD of the collaboration. It has the essence of the spirit of her work. The Louis Vuitton designer designated Vuittons monogram and Kusamas dots as both timeless and endless.
Vuitton will support the collection (and the exhibition, which it sponsors) with an iPhone app devoted to the artist. Free of product and free to download, it invites users to customise their own pictures with Kusama themes.
The Kusama products will be available in limited editions. We prefer for them to become collectors items. Years after, people are so excited to have these bags, Vuitton CEO Yves Carcelle told the paper.
