The fashion business has made magnates of Galen and George Weston and their families. The Selfridges and Primark owners reached the top spot in the fashion stakes and were listed as the 10th richest family in Britain thanks to their combined fortune of £5.9bn, according to the latest edition of the Rich List.
Fellow fashion winners include Sir Philip and Lady Green. The Sunday Times reported that the Greens lost £900m over the last year as profits plunged at their Arcadia retail group, but the couple still has a £3.3bn fortune from Topshop, Topman and their other brands. The Greens are ranked 17th in the overall list. Jewellery tycoons Laurence and Francois Graff tied with Green for 17th place.
backer Christina Ong and her family, who also have lucrative franchise deals with Giorgio Armani and Donna Karan, ranked 61st with an estimated fortune of £1.21bn.
With £190m, David and Victoria Beckham made it onto the list in 395th place. The paper estimated that is worth £30m.
