‘This is all you need to pack in your suitcase for your summer holidays,’ said Olivia Rubin of her 17-piece capsule collection for Dorothy Perkins in advance of its launch in-store today, ‘You’ve got a maxi-dress to take you from beach to festival, party dresses for wedding to club, and all those easy throw-on pieces for in-between.’

And indeed the collection is perfect for lazy hazy summer days, in bright colours and winking patterns. Light floating chiffons drape across soft jersey fabrics in a perfect expression of the kind of femininity for which the St Martins graduate is known. ‘I just thought about what I like to wear when I’m on holiday and took it from there,’ the designer explained.

Not that she has much time for a holiday; she’s already begun work on an Autumn collection for the high street brand which, she says, will be filled with perfectly pitched party pieces that will please the good-time girls that make up the Dorothy Perkins customer.

‘Dorothy Perkins is the place where girls go to get a last minute piece for their Friday night out,’ said Rubin, ‘which is why I’ve included flirty pieces like the cold-shoulder top, little peplums and lots of pink.’ What more does a girl need?
