Let them wear cake: Chanel to show at Versailles

What’s better than recreating the gardens of Versailles for a Chanel show in the Grand Palais? Taking the show to Versailles proper, it seems.

Karl Lagerfeld will stage Chanel’s cruise show in the gardens of the Chateau de Versailles on the evening of 14 May, WWD reported.

Although the designer has staged previous cruise shows in Venice, Los Angeles and Antibes, it seems his thoughts have always stayed closer to home. For the spring summer 2011 show, Lagerfeld installed a maze-like, monochromatic interpretation of Versaille’s gardens, complete with working fountains.

Fashion houses including Hubert de Givenchy, Yves Saint Laurent, Emanuel Ungaro, Halston, and Oscar de la Renta have shown at Versailles in the past.
