An Olympic shopping spree

Sunday opening restrictions to be lifted during the Olympics

Stella McCartney isn’t the only one flying the flag for British fashion during the Olympics.

We didn’t have the Chancellor, George Osbourne, down as a shopaholics’ champion, but he has decided to lift the restrictions on Sunday trading hours during the London 2012 Olympic Games.

In a move that could lead to an injection of £200 million for the British high street, from July 22, the current six-hour Sunday trading rule will be lifted for the eight week duration of the Olympics.

“Some of the biggest events will be on a Sunday,” he said, “when millions of visitors come to Britain to see them, we don't want to hang up a closed for business sign”.
And while we might not all be triathlon material, this is one form of exercise in which we are delighted to partake. On your marks, get set, shop.
