It was game, set and match in Washington as Samantha Cameron met Michelle Obama with all sartorial guns blazing at an Olympic-themed event to coincide with The British Prime Minister’s visit to the US.

The two First Ladies came together in a perfectly pitched clash of colour with Samantha Cameron choosing the hot pink of versus Mrs. O’s chartreuse cardigan by . With their powers combined, they looked like they had been taking style notes from the style set attending last month’s shows (where extreme colour-blocking was the street trend du mois), however more important power forces were at play as each woman dressed head to toe in designers native to their own country.

Samantha Cameron wore cigarette trousers by Joseph, L.K Bennett shoes and a black Burberry trench to set off the fuchsia top, whilst Obama flew the flag with her l’Wren Scott blouse and matching high waist trousers.

But who came out on top? Not that we’re biased, but we favour the lean silhouette of Cameron’s cigarette pants over the billowing ones sported by Obama. However the US First Lady proved that her fashion powers are more than the sum of their parts when she took up a tennis racket and delivered some powerful serves to an opponent – all while wearing kitten heels. A good sport like that deserves to be recognised so we'd say that in this fashion round it's a draw. But with a busy day ahead and a state dinner tonight, the game is still very much up for grabs.
