Known within the industry as fashion’s 'fairy godmother’, Vreeland was famed for her eloquent and inspiring words of wisdom such as this particular favourite: ‘The only real elegance is in the mind; if you've got that, the rest really comes from it.’

A magazine editor, costume consultant and style icon, she had two key obsessions: the colour green and Venice - and thus sparked the ‘Diana Vreeland after Diana Vreeland’ exhibition.

Held in the city so true to her heart, Venice’s 15th-century presents the first major show dedicated to her work, featuring an array of emerald designs from the vintage greats , and Irene Galitzine.

Proud to see his grandmother still regarded in such a curatorial manner, Alexander Vreeland said, ‘she made the relation between fashion and art possible. This is standing on her shoulders’.

The exhibition will run until June 26th 2012; so in the words of her famous column, ‘Why Don’t You’ treat yourself to a trip to Venice and immerse yourself in Vreeland’s fashion history.
