Spanx puts Sara Blakeley on world billionaire list

Forbes has named Spanx founder Sara Blakely to its World’s Billionaire’s list, making her the youngest woman to join the list through her own enterprise.

The magazine estimates Blakely’s net worth at $1bn, ranking her number 1,153 in the 1,226-person list. The girdle entrepreneur redefined and continues to dominate the shapewear category, making Spanx a brand name invoked from the lingerie department to the red carpet.

Miuccia Prada also appears on the list of billionaires, with a net worth of $6.8bn. The designer returns to the list for the first time since 2008 based on the strength of Prada’s IPO on the Hong Kong stock exchange in 2011, which valued the family-owned fashion house at $13bn.

Other fashion names appearing in the annual ranking include LVMH chairman Bernard Arnault, the world’s fourth-richest man with a net worth of $41bn; Ralph Lauren, in the 122nd spot with $7.5bn; Giorgio Armani in 127th place with $7.2bn, Chanel owners Alain and Gerard Wetheimer with $7.5bn, and Sir Philip and Christina Green, with $4.2bn.
