As if upending gender norms, hiring top fashion executives and launching a new cologne weren’t enough, Jean Paul Gaultier is now set to take on the fizzy drinks world.

The fantastical designer has taken the reins from Diet Coke Creative Director Karl Lagerfeld (also known as Mr Chanel) and promises to bring his quirky humour to the brand through a series of projects in 2012.

Starting with a starring role in three short films titled, ‘The Night & Day Serial Designer Series,’ the designer will play the hero to each of the brand’s puppets, solving their fashion dilemmas with a miraculous sip of Diet Coke. From therapist to journalist, Gaultier’s acting skills are stretched to humorous effect—watch what we mean below.

The designer will also offer his creative expertise on a limited-edition collection of bottles and cans, as well as developing online content, retail concepts and Diet Coke’s European advertising campaigns. We’re sure he’ll come up with something fizzing...
