Giorgio Armani: from the red carpet to the runway

Fresh from dressing Penelope Cruz, Karolina Kurkova and Ellie Kemper at last night's Academy Awards—as well as George Clooney, Tom Cruise and Billy Crystal on the suit front—there was no rest for Giorgio Armani this morning as he presented his autumn winter 2012 collection at Milan fashion week.

If he and the Armani team stayed up all night watching the Oscars, it certainly didn't show. As always, a slick, uniformed operation from the demigod of Italian fashion. The models turn to look right and left in unison, never is a hair out of place.

This season Giorgio's modern woman has adopted the androgyny trend with Prince of Wales check trouser suits and those Bermuda shorts so prevalent in the Emporio show on Saturday. Being Armani, she hasn't lost sight of her femininity and the fluid lines were softened by organza swing skirts and two-tone bright orange and fuchsia dresses. Faux fur and elasticised fabrics add glamour worthy of the red carpet the label features on so heavily.
