The one that attracts the attention of a global audience of hundreds of thousands tuned in to watch the live stream. She who takes up two of the top ten trending topics on Twitter right now (for #Burberry and #ChristopherBailey, #LiesPeopleAlwaysTell doing extraordinarily well too). Enter the Burberry show.

ELLE favourites, and “Burberry Family” members Eddie Redmayne, Clemence Poesy, Kate Bosworth, Rosie Huntington-Whiteley, Will.i.am and Alexa Chung watched the next instalment of Burberry’s evolution of its 156 year old house. Well, more the now instalment really as once again they are dispelling conventional lead times and allowing you to shop the looks immediately, receiving them in six weeks time.

This had a Land Girl feel with country bumpkin herringbone tweeds, quilts, corduroy and flat caps. A bracing walk through the archive of trench coats and military jackets. This season tweed panelling updated the mac, with huge saddlebag pockets and riding jackets to tick off huntin’, shootin’ and fishin’ triumvirate. The fox even turned up, a gold fox head acting as clasp on clutch bags.

Forties shapes of below-the-knee full-skirted coats that nipped you in at the waist prevailed, some with shawl collars, others with velvet trim. The coats so beautifully crafted and dress-like that they act as the beginning, middle and end of your outfit. If you owned something so flattering and shapely, why bother accessorising it with anything else?

Christopher Bailey also succeeded made us fall in love with the puffa jacket – and not for the first time today after and re-worked it earlier on. Bailey’s were cut high and blown out at the back, or so super-skinny that, again, there must have been nothing underneath.

Elsewhere, a William Morris-esque print covered long-sleeved dresses with bow details on the shoulders, and lace pencil skirts with peplum layers and the dirndl gave us the skirt shapes of the new season.

To end – and we’re getting quite spoilt with our Burberry endings these days – rain tumbled down on the outer walls of the marquee but sequin rail hailed inside, giving us an umbrella-filled photo finish close to a terrific show.
