Narciso Rodriguez's colourful day

There was colour: brick red, bitter chocolate, orange and a whole forest of greens. This was the big surprise at Narciso Rodriguez – a man who likes black with his white.

He’s also of the minimalist school of thought, a designer who leans towards the conceptual, sometimes with rather rigid results. Well, not last night. Because the other big news was that Narciso had gone loco for fluid – sliced and diced satins that fluttered as skirts with fluid trains or tops with quivering layers.

It was a fantastic collection for the Narciso devotee. You had the solid coats in bonded wool that would probably stand up all by themselves and you had the russet silks that moved sensuously to the beat of … Gloria Estefan, the queen of Latin pop, who, yes, was in the audience.


He also launched his new accessories – black alligator /suede top-handle bag, anyone? How about some fine-heeled calf length boots in panels of cognac and ecru suede? Yes please. And yes to the chartreuse silk one-strap dress - and all the rest, come to think of it.
