Ben Malka, who assumed control of the troubled label after the exit of Sarah Jessica Parker, Tamara Mellon, Harvey Weinstein, Bonnie Takhar and designer Marios Schwab, also said he had moved the Halston Heritage diffusion label to Los Angeles. ‘[A] brand like this belongs here,’ he told WWD. ‘I think it will be a boon to the Los Angeles fashion community.’

Malka said he planned to further differentiate the Heritage range from the main Halston line, and promised that he wouldn’t spend too much time looking backward at the house’s archives despite the lack of a creative director.

‘I think the past is wonderful to learn from, but whatever we are doing now should be with the future in mind. I think if Halston were here today, he would be very pleased.’
