Introducing the spring 12 accessories report

From the tribal and textured to the sublimely cosmic and minimal, spring 12 marks a shift in how we wear accessories.

No longer are accessories just an essential extra. Spring 12’s blazing Prada flame shoe, or Richard Nicoll’s clear kitten heel bootie, won’t just add to your look, but will define it.

The rose print Miu Miu tote, the Christopher Kane Clematis, and the Chanel conch shell clutch aren’t just to be carried – any one of these styles will carry your new season outfit.

As spring is just around the corner, it’s time to prepare yourself for spring 12’s statement bags, and the new season’s defining jewellery and shoes.

From cosmic perspex finishes, ultra-girly box clutches and ladylike points, to iridescent shells and whimsical blooms; bags, shoes and jewellery, are touched by the ultra-feminine for spring 12.

At the edgy-end of the offer, chunky pool flats pioneered by Christopher Kane, filter down to the luxe branded market, while Celine and Victoria Beckham keep things grown-up, with clean minimal lines and purist colours.

Over at Prada a genius cartoon aesthetic plays out; counterbalanced by classic 1950s inspired bejewelled earrings and necklaces, all jostling for attention in the same collection.

Retro designs are also popular on shades this season, with the rockabilly cat eye the crucial sunglasses silhouette for spring.

Of course it’s an Olympic year so as with clothing, accessories and footwear, take a sporty stance. Look out for perforated leathers, neoprene panelling, cleated soles and easy to wear shapes.

And, whether it’s via raffia, and natural canvas textures, or fruit, vegetable or flora prints, Mother Nature has inspired many a designer this season; from Dolce & Gabbana, to Givenchy and beyond.
