Celine downgrades show

One of Paris’s hottest tickets has left the building—temporarily. Celine is skipping the runway circuit for the autumn-winter 2012 season, downgrading its show to a presentation in light of designer Phoebe Philo’s pregnancy.

Philo, 39, is expecting her third child in April, and label executives said they wanted to limit the stressfulness that surrounds a fashion show.

‘A runway show is a very demanding and personal engagement for a creative director,’ Marco Gobbetti, chief executive officer at Celine, told WWD. ‘The objective is to simplify.’

Gobetti told the paper he’s considering a more intimate presentation format for the A/W ’12 collection, perhaps inviting press into the house’s Paris showrooms.

Despite the unusual nature of a major fashion house downscaling its show in such a manner, Gobetti maintains that it’s ‘business as usual’ at Celine. Philo is ‘designing the collection with her team’ and will attend any presentation.

Celine will keep its predetermined show slot, set for 4 March at 1:00pm.
