Carrie Bradshaw heads back to the small screen

Prepare to meet a very different Carrie Bradshaw. American television network the CW, home of Gossip Girl, 90210 and One Tree Hill, has commissioned a pilot for a new series following the teenaged Bradshaw.

Called The Carrie Diaries and based on Candace Bushnell’s novel of the same name, the series will take SATC fans back to Bradshaw’s high school years in 1980s New England. It’s pre-Big, pre-Aidan, and even pre-Manolo, Jimmy and Christian... though we’re confident that the young Ms Bradshaw eventually will make their acquaintance.

Gossip Girl producers Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage and former SATC writer and co-producer Amy Harris are the powers behind the series.

Although Blake Lively, Elizabeth Olsen and Selena Gomez’s names all arose when the project was rumoured to be in development as a film, there’s no word on a cast for the TV series. Nor are there any details about who will handle the all-important costumes (too early). We’d bet that the big Bradshaw hair will make an early, ‘80s-tastic appearance.

Will you watch? Or do you not see the point of Carrie, without sex and outside of the city?
