Designer Ann Demeulemeester, who left the fashion industry last November, has signed a book deal with Rizzoli.

The hardcover tome, due out in mid-October, will feature an introduction by musician Patti Smith.

It has been billed by the publisher as ‘the first and highly personal perspective into the work and processes of Ann Demeulemeester, one of the most influential and inspiring fashion designers of our time.’

The book will contain more than 1,000 photographs ‘approximating some of the mystery and detailing associated with her brand’, according to Rizzoli.

, who founded her eponymous company in 1985, and was responsible for defining slouchy Belgian cool in the 1990s, revealed her exit from fashion last year in a hand-written letter, stating that she was leaving the industry ‘a happy and fulfilled person’.
