Ari Seth Cohen invited three of his Advanced Style stars to appear with him on this morning's Today show, a US chat show, to dish on style over 60.
Cohen’s brought with him self-described ‘geriatric starlet’ Iris Apfel, age 91; 92-year-old false eyelash fan Ilona Smithkin, and elegant 79-year-old boutique owner Lynn Dell.
He shared his reasons for starting the blog—‘When I moved to New York, I saw all these older women dressed up, living their lives to the fullest'—and then gave the floor over to the ladies.
‘I think it’s wonderful that he’s doing this for us,’ Apfel said. ‘Not only for us, but for all those poor ladies out there who think that after a certain age they have to roll up and die or look like they’re wearing widow’s weeds.’
As for why she takes such pleasure in dressing up, Apfel had this to say: ‘Life is grey, and I think when you dress up, you feel happy.’
Amen to the woman in the orange feather boa….
UPDATED: It's not a feather boa at all. It's a Mongolian lambswool handbag from Apfel's new 'Extinctions by Iris Apfel' range, available at Henri Bendel and Bloomingdale's. Because... of course it is!
