Menswear designer Alexandre Mattiussi was last night named the winner of the 24th Andam (National Association for the Development of the Fashion Arts) Award.

Known for his label Ami Alexander Mattiussi, the French designer was announced by Diesel boss Renzo Rosso as the winner of the €250,000 (£214,969) cash prize at a ceremony last night. Mattiussi will also receive two seasons of mentoring from Rosso and a purchase order from Canadian department store Hudson’s bay.

With previous winners of the award including Giles Deacon, Gareth Pugh, Richard Nicoll and Viktor & Rolf, this has cemented Mattiussi’s place on the fashion radar. Other finalists this year included Olympia Le-Tan and Iris Van Herpen.

Graduating from Duperré School, Mattiussi cut his teeth at Dior’s ‘30 Avenue Montaigne’ men’s line, before joining Givenchy as first menswear assistant in 2004 and Marc Jacobs Men in 2009. He launched his ready-to-wear AMI label in 2010 and showed his first collection during Paris Men Fashion in January 2011. Cool, easy and chic designs have since become his hallmark.
