Norwegian-born designer Andreas Melbostad is set to step up as the new creative director of Diesel Black Gold, say sources close to Diesel.

These rumours follow on from an announcement earlier this month that Sophia Kokosalaki will be leaving the brand after three years as creative director.

Melbostad trained at London’s Royal College of Art, where he was hand-picked by Elber Albaz, who was then at Guy Laroche. Melbostad followed Elbaz to Yves Saint Laurent and then went on to work at Nina Ricci, Calvin Klein and, most recently, at cult label Phi (which closed down in 2009).

Kokosalaki’s final collection for Diesel Black Gold will be shown in New York next month.
