The powerful, spare, darkly dramatic image released by the house today was shot by Steven Klein – and bestowed ‘with lots of emotion, in contrast to the austerity bestowed in the show,’ Wang explained to WWD.

Kristen McMenamy is the girl in front of the lens – not that you’d know, given that her face is hidden, with the focus entirely on ‘craft, detail and texture’ of the clothes shown.

The clamour to be runway-side as Wang’s first collection for the French fashion powerhouse was unveiled at in February was phenomenal, with ELLE’s editor-in-chief Lorraine Candy hailing the edit as ‘a powerful statement’.
