The French actress and style icon has been spotted wearing this ensemble from the much anticipated capsule collection featuring Japanese artist Yayoi Kusama’s spotty prints on Marc Jacobs’ designs for Louis Vuitton. The pieces will be in shops on Tuesday 10th July – so not long at all, and numbers will be limited so if you’re thinking of investing in some art/fashion you’ll need to be organised.
Marc Jacobs is well known for hand picking fine artists to collaborate with on Louis Vuitton projects; Stephen Sprouse, Takashi Murakami and Tracey Emin to name but three. The designer and art collector became fascinated with the intriguing Kusama, who inhabits a world entirely populated with dots - back in the Nineties, and has not only utilised her vision for the collection but brought the Japanese artist to prominence in the UK by sponsoring her exhibition at Tate Modern earlier this year.
‘It’s really charming,’ Marc Jacobs told WWD of the collaboration. ‘It has the essence of the spirit of her work.’ The Louis Vuitton designer designated Vuitton’s monogram and Kusama’s dots as ‘both timeless and endless.’
The star of the Oscar winning movie The Artist is not the only one to have got her hands on some advanced merchandise – ELLE’s Accessories Editor Donna Wallace wears some of the pieces as part of her pick of the new season in this month’s ELLE – which is out now. Absolutely spot on.
