Binx Walton has transitioned from fashion's new face, to catwalk gold, to model bad ass, and now designing her own collection for Italian trainer favourties Superga. We caught up with the model to find out what inspired this collection and how Instagram is impacting the modelling world.

Binx On Her Superga Collaboration

Q: What encouraged you to step into the world of design?

A: I think it was just a really good opportunity. When I was offered Superga I definitely wanted to do it, just because it’s a new part of life that I got to explore – the other side of the fashion business that I didn’t really understand that well, and I really enjoyed it. The whole process is a lot more intense but you feel more accomplished once it’s over – you really created something. It’s pretty trippy that people are going to wear it!

Q: Who did you have in mind when you were designing the shoes?

A: I think it’s just based on what I like – little things. I made a collection of what I would actually wear, not base it off of something unrealistic as this is my first project and I really wanted to keep it simple and create something that everybody can wear – girls and boys. I like to wear boyish clothes but I’m still a girl, so it’s keeping it within those boundaries. Basically, I've made it so my brother can wear it too.

Q: Did you have strong ideas about gender when designing this collection?

A: Yes, but to be honest I didn’t have to make an effort for that to happen, it came naturally. I have my boy qualities and my girl qualities and I just made it about how I like a shoe, and I like a shoe that’s not a girl’s or a boy’s – I often wear boy’s shoes in girl’s sizes.

Q: What attracted you to Superga?

A: I love that Yoko and John Lennon wore them on their wedding, so I thought that was pretty cool – I like the history of the brand.

Binx On Instagram

Q: How do you feel about being an Instagram model-of-the-moment?

A: I’m not that big of a fan of it to be honest with you. I think it’s literally putting a filter on your life which I don’t think is healthy for anyone, especially children looking at that and thinking they need to be perfect and that they need to look a certain way.

I think social media has kind of f****d everything a little bit, but I think it’s going to form a revolution and new ideas of what’s cool. I have hope in the future and hope in the realization of perfection as an unreachable thing. I hope people understand not to take it too seriously. But social media is good for keeping in contact with all my friends, there’s ups and downs – people see it how they want to see it, basically.

Binx On Fashion Week

Q: How do shows compare now to when you first started?

A: It’s fun but it’s not as fun, just because it’s newer girls each season and you don’t know the girls as much. And there’s a lot of politics and attitudes. I like men's shows, men's shows are fun.

Q: Would you want to do more men’s collections in the future?

A: Probably, yeah. I wish Alexander Wang would make a men’s show.

Q: What’s your most memorable show?

A: I think that’s difficult, I don’t know. It’s the times and the people, I think. It’s random moments of happiness, but I can’t really pin-point a show.

Binx On Life

Q: Which living person do you most admire?

A: My mum, she’s super dope.

A: Lots of cuss words. Mostly ‘yo’.

Q: Which talent would you most like to have?

A: I would really like to be able to sing.

Q: Which super power would you most like to have?

A: Teleportation, you could just break into a bank

Q: What’s your current Netflix addiction?

A: I’m watching 'Better Call Saul' right now, but I’ve been watching 'The X-Files' and 'Making A Murderer', so good!

Q: What’s the one thing you can’t live without?

A: Food and water, literally.

A: Peanut M&M's, and probably beer.
