CFDA responds to show date storm

On Thursday, President Diane von Furstenberg and CEO Steven Kolb set forth the CFDA’s official stance in a letter to designers, editors, model and PR agencies and buyers.

‘All four fashion capitals have kept to this agreement, to date, and the U.S. will continue to do so for the foreseeable future,’ the letter stated.

‘While the Camera Nazionale della Moda in Milan has expressed displeasure with the late start for September, we do not feel that New York should shift earlier. Our colleagues at the British Fashion Council support this decision, as they cannot change their dates either.’

According to the official schedule, the spring summer 2013 collections will show in New York from 13 September. London Fashion Week is scheduled to run from 21 Sept. Milan from the 26th, and Paris from 2 October.

The Camera Nazionale della Moda, the body that governs the Italian fashion industry, has ruffled the international fashion community’s feathers by insisting that its start date for S/S ’13 leaves the shows too late for production. Milan organisers have said Italian designers will show their collections from 19-25 September, representing a direct conflict with New York and London.
