Singapore is the next destination that Karl Lagerfeld is punching into the sat nav, it has been revealed today.

The designer will show the house’s cruise 2013-14 collection on The Loewen Cluster on Dempsey Hill, a world heritage site, on Thursday, 9 May.

In a hint at what we might be able to expect to see on the catwalk, a statement announcing the show proclaims: ‘The island of Singapore basks in the sun all year long – a never-ending summer, the ultimate tropical escape from the winters of the northern or southern hemispheres.’

The Chanel cruise collections have been on the move since 2000, taking in locations such as Paris, New York, Los Angeles, Miami, Venice, Saint-Tropez, Cap d’Antibes and Versailles, and are invariably fashion moments in their own right.

At Chanel’s more traditionally staged a/w13 show at Paris Fashion Week last month, Lagerfeld underlined the global reach of the brand by , dotted with Chanel flags, suspended from the ceiling.

‘It’s not world fashion domination,’ he said backstage post-show. ‘It’s about the globalisation of fashion. I wanted a global look, not a French look. I wanted a very monochrome silhouette - dark but not sad - a touch of shine, a touch of pink.’

Next week’s Singapore event will be made extra-special thanks to an auspicious anniversary: it’s 100 years since the opening of the first Chanel boutique in Deauville, France. In celebration, the evening before the show, Lagerfeld will unveil a new film, Once Upon A Time…, which is set around its inception and stars Keira Knightley in the role of Mademoiselle, as well as a Who’s Who of Chanel favourites in support.

Invitation 'lost in the post'? Watch a sneak preview of the film now, below, and set an alert for 1.30pm GMT on Wednesday, 8 May – you’ll be able to watch the debut screening simultaneously via chanelnews.com.

A truly global event indeed.
