Karl Lagerfeld had previously promised the collection wouldn't include any ‘Smoking’ - a reference to the debuts of Raf Simons at Dior and Hedi Slimane at Saint Laurent, who both riffed on the theme of YSL tuxedo jackets. Instead, he showed neat-as-a-pin black and white short dresses. One of these was modelled by Kristen McMenamy’s daughter, Lily, who made her modelling debut at the inaugural Hedi Slimane’s Saint Laurent show, last night.
This was followed by beautifully simple pearl-embellished little black dresses, followed by a section of gowns with graphic, oversized floral embellishment. A large proportion of black and white looks; structured trousers and tops as well as dresses of different shapes - paraded down the super-long runway; which held room for 15 models walking at once.
