Brush aside those dresses and the business buzz at this year's Met Ball was that Harvey Weinstein had his eye on acquiring the now-defunct Charles James label that the event was so beautifully honouring.

Today, it's been confirmed that the whispers were true.

The Weinstein Company (aka TWC) has 'agreed to license, with an option to buy' the Charles James label - and Weinstein's designer wife, Georgina Chapman, and her Marchesa CEO brother, Edward Chapman, have been installed as creative consultants.

Said Weinstein in a statement: 'Charles James was one of the most incredible couturiers in the history of fashion and this label deserves to be a household name in same ranks as Chanel, Dior and Oscar de la Renta.

'There isn’t a single designer in high fashion who wouldn’t name him as a major influence. We are beyond thrilled to be spearheading the revival of this brand and bringing it back to the world’s finest retailers.'

Of course, Weinstein's no stranger to such a thing, having worked a similar magic on Halston in 2007.

Chapman, meanwhile, added that James had 'long been an inspiration to me and everyone at Marchesa'.

While further details about the label's return to market are yet to be announced, TWC has confirmed that it will be working with The Met to take its Charles James: Beyond Fashion exhibition to the wider world.

Here's hoping London is on its tour list.
