Indie movie darling, fashion muse and designer with Opening Ceremony, Chloe Sevigny has tackled her latest brief – enjoying a cup of tea in the Miu Miu campaign shot by Mert Alas and Marcus Piggott - with aplomb. Who better to try and persuade the rest of us round to thinking about trousers and suit jackets for the new season than Chloe? She suits androgynous style and over the years we’ve watched her try the trickiest trends, and pull them off.
Trouser suits are big news for AW12 – its official. Miuccia Prada believes in the power of the trouser so strongly that she not only created a complete collection of them for Miu Miu Autumn/Winter but she chose a pair of brocade trousers with matching tunic to wear to the Met Ball this year. As the guest of honour for the exhibition Impossible Conversations with Elsa Schiaparelli, the formidable designer strode the red carpet beaming, surrounded by supermodels and actresses in gowns – and looking all the more modern for it.
Chloe is an excellent match for the left-field luxury brand, and we were surprised to find that she has only been matched with them once before – she posed for Jurgen Teller for a Miu Miu campaign back in 1996. Mrs Prada is famous for changing direction – and ambassadors- for her brands regularly, and often chooses lesser-known actresses, like Hailee Steinfeld when aged only 14. Chloe is 37 (though only looks about 25) and recently attracted serious plaudits for her latest role as a transsexual hitman - maybe it was this that convinced Mrs Prada that she was perfect for the face of 2012 - 13?
