laughed off his favourable odds on taking the top job at as he collected the award for Designer of the Year - again - at the Scottish Fashion Awards last night.

'I doubt that'll happen!' he laughed, citing his recent investment by Kering - the rival luxury conglomerate to Vuitton owner LVMH - as a teensy bit of a sticking point. The day Marc Jacobs announced his resignation from the house, the official bookies odds on Kane stepping were an impressive 7/1, putting him right behind frontrunner Nicholas Ghesquière.

'I don't think people did their homework,' he told us. 'I've seen the odds. But I wouldn't be putting a bet on, let's put it that way.

'I think Marc did an amazing job; he's such a great guy. But it's good to move on. It's sad, but I think Marc Jacobs the brand will be so much bigger and better with him fully behind it.'

Paris chat aside, it was all about Scotland last night, as the country's top creative talent descended in a whirl of pipers and tartan upon an intimate awards ceremony at Dover House in Whitehall, then on to dinner at 8 Northumberland Place before nightcaps at - where else? - Whisky Mist.

David Gandy, Laura Carmichael, Model of the Year Mary Charteris and Stella Tennant, who collected the International Designer of the Year Award on behalf of Chanel, were among the famous faces who joined the celebrations - which were expertly hosted by Laura Whitmore and, much to ELLE's delight, included an Irn Bru sorbet on the dessert plate.
