Deck the hall with boughs from Italy: has today been announced as the special guest designer who’ll create this year’s Claridge’s Christmas tree.

The design, revealed above, combines classic Christmas tree flourishes with ‘Sicilian elements’ such as hand-crafted ‘pupi’ and a bespoke ‘luminarie’ framework imported from Southern Italy.

‘When we think of London we always think of Claridge’s and of its typically English atmosphere that fascinates us and makes us fall in love with the city every time as if it were the first,’ say Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana.

‘Our Christmas tree isn’t only a celebration of Christmas as we celebrate it in Italy, but it’s at the same time atribute to the artisanal Italian tradition, the same that we love to export worldwide with everything we do.’

2013 marks the fourth year that the iconic London hotel has invited a special guest collaborator to design its festive tree.

Roll on December – or, rather, 26 November, when the finished article will be unveiled.
