Today I'm wearing: Whistles playsuit, Topshop shoes, Prada sunglassess, Issey Miyake Bao Bao bag

Welcome to my personal Fashion Week blog, a quick look at what I'm up to during the busiest four weeks of my year. You can follow me on Twitter and Instagram to get daily updates and ask me questions – let me know what you want to read about, too. First up: New York, New York.

New York
Monday 8 September

After dropping my three-year-old daughter Mabel at nursery for her first day ever (#tearyeyed), it's straight in a car to the airport and off to NYC to arrive in time for hologram show in Central Park on Monday evening at 9pm.

I have packed light – especially as I know the weather in NYC is hot and humid, so now is not the time for my more wintry new-season buys to make their debut. I am taking a crossover wardrobe of mostly dresses, and no coat.

When I arrive at JFK airport, my Russian driver immediately asks me how I feel about the Scottish independence vote. 'Australia next,' he says cheerfully as he drives me to New York's Fairmont Plaza Hotel on Central Park.

I have 40 minutes at the hotel for a quick change into my blue Preen dress before heading out for steak and a catch-up meeting with my boss, Publishing Director Meribeth Parker, who's already in the city. We head to Quality Meats, where the steak is so big the bone hangs over the edge of the table. This unnerves me but MP, as we call her, isn't bothered. She's Canadian.

Then off to the park and into a golf cart (yes, a golf cart!). The extraordinary show is projected on to the fountain in the park, to which the carts takes us. It's a another hot night in New York.

Tuesday 9 September
Up and out by 6am for my first jog ever in Central Park. I am overwhelmed by the huge number of runners! I've never seen this many in one go, it's like a race.

Then I spend the morning with working on a special project for our ELLE December issue (which you can pre-order here now). Then it's meetings and shows before an early night.

Wednesday 10 September
I am met at 7am by Nike personal trainer Kirsy Lovett, who runs me to the reservoir and back in Central Park. I feel like a professional this time and it's a good 5K to start the day.

magically summery show is downtown, and Fashion Week traffic means a 20-minute journey takes an hour and 10. It's not the done thing for the Editor-in-Chief to take the subway, but I'm tempted to and will do if the traffic doesn't let up today.

There's a blue blazer and cute yellow mac that catches my eye at , and I notice backstage how jolly the girls are and what fun everyone is having. The brand is brought to life by the cheerful and positive Kors team; this sense of joy isn't always present at fashion shows, so it's great to see it once in a while. Fashion should be fun.

Next it's elegant and sophisticated show at The World Trade Center, where we can see the Statue of Liberty from the 54th floor.

My afternoon ends with frozen yoghurt at Jenna Lyons' desk. The magnificent J Crew creative guru is inspiring and funny in person – this is the second time we've met and I like her more every time we get together. She features in our December issue, too.

The evening ends with a fabulously glamorous but intimate dinner with and his friends at a tiny Italian restaurant in NYC's SoHo. I mean to leave by 10.30pm, but end up staying until midnight as the team are so much fun and Jason is so wonderfully entertaining.

Thursday 11 September
The heatwave continues as fashion week draws to a close. My day is meetings and shows, starting with rather beautiful and colourful collection. Next is elegant and minimal show, where Sarah Jessica Parker lights up the front row. I have an afternoon filled with meetings, including a riotous chat with in his office – he talks of dancing on chairs with JLo at the Met Ball and the conversation gets ever more entertaining. He must be great to work with.

closes Fashion Week with his bright pink set at The Armoury uptown. There are Beats by Dre headphones for the audience and an enormous pink house in the middle of the runway, which the girls all walk around. As they are all wearing the same black wig, it's impossible for me to spot Kendall Jenner (who made her catwalk debut at this show last season), though I do work out which model is Candice Swanepoel – an ELLE cover star last year.

We leave the city immediately after the show, and I am home in time the following morning to collect my three-year-old from nursery.

No 1: Waiting in my hotel room in New York - has sent coffee from his cafe. This I need.

No 2: The Fairmont Plaza Hotel thinks of everything. For those of us with no sense of direction this is a Godsend!

No 3: Flowers from designer - what a lovely greeting. Not too shabby this job.

Moodboard (left to right): Look! Personalised stationery; The childrens' menu at The Plaza. Cute; I love the Nike Instagram app; Cake - quick Instagram it; The very glam Plaza Suite bathroom.
