The month-long run of Fashion Weeks in New York, London, Milan and Paris has finally drawn to a close. And in between doing our washing, putting our feet up and catching up on all the things we've missed over the last month thanks to being immersed in the world of runway, we've compiled a list of our favourite shows.
It was originally going to be a top ten, but there were too many highlights to choose from. These are the shows that may not spawn next season's hottest trends but that were breathtakingly beautiful, fantastically entertaining or just made us feel as though we were part of a moment that would be talked about for seasons to come. Here are our picks:
Giles: London favourite Giles Deacon returned to our capital with a stellar collection and the best model line-up of the season - Abbey Clancy, Kelly Brook, Agyness Deyn , Verushka, Coco Rocha , Jessica Stam - and Kerry Katona sitting front row. We've missed him. Thank goodness he's back in town.
Mary Katranzou (pictured): The young Brit designer triumphed with her surrealist digital prints of interiors layered on to stunning dresses. Expect to see her lampshade skirts splashed across every magazine come spring.
Jil Sander: If anything can persuade us to start sporting neon it was Jil Sander's show. The mixture of simplicity and couture shapes with eye-popping shades was everything we want our wardrobes to be come spring.
Alexander McQueen: Sarah Burton's debut collection as head of the label was the most highly anticipated of the season - and she didn't disappoint. Taking McQueen's signatures and injecting them with a new femininity, she managed to hold onto the designer’s legacy and add a stamp of her own
Michael van der Ham: Showing solo on the schedule for the first time, van der Ham proved that he was more than worthy of the slot with the most polished and covetable take on his signature patchwork style yet. Frankly we don't know how we're going to wait until next season to get hold of his dresses.
3.1 Phillip Lim: Simple luxury ruled at Phillip Lim – and we loved it.
Prada: Miuccia came up trumps. Those banana and monkey prints are surely set to be next season’s most fought over.
Preen: The London duo wowed New York with their best collection yet. Cool, crisp and feminine, the fashion crowd’s shopping list is long…
Rodarte: The sisters earned themselves swathes of new fans with a wearable, commercial collection that shied away from the more darker elements that have been their signature.
Richard Nicoll: Morden sportswear met 70s glamour on the runway at Richard Nicoll and had us itching to stock up on pleats and chiffon.
Dolce & Gabbana: The Italian duo conjured up the coolest wedding dresses ever seen. Is it wrong to want to head up the aisle just so we can wear them?
Chanel: Karl Lagerfeld doesn't do things by halves. There were fountains, pillars, a live orchestra, a toddler, Ines de la Fressange on the catwalk and the longest front row we've ever seen. It was spectacular.
Erdem: Our dream dresses. From simple white to beautifully printed florals, there was something beautiful for everyone.
John Galliano: Galliano’s show was everything we could have hoped for – held in an opulent theatre, and packed with stunning dresses worn by models who interacted with the front row. The drama was electrifying, plus it was Galliano's best ever bow.
Hermes: Jean Paul Gaultier put eight real horses on the catwalk for his last show at the luxe label. There's really no topping that.
