Alessandra Ambrosio is the Brazilian household name famous for modelling for high street label Next and showing off her figure for Victoria's Secret and Pirelli . Today, she was announced as the new face of Moschino's Autumn Winter campaign having suddenly re-appeared on the catwalk scene this year after an eight year break.
"And?", you may be asking? Well, there's a very distinct line in fashion. On one side sits high fashion, in which unusual, angular girls model unusual, angular clothes on the runways of New York, Milan and Paris. On the other sits commercial fashion, in which happy, crowd-pleasing, bouncy girls bare their chests and white teeth. The two paths never cross. Until this year...
Louis Vuitton , Giles and Prada broke protocol at the Autumn Winter shows in February and March by using said commercial girls to walk the catwalk. "I had been away from fashion shows seven or eight years, other than Victoria's Secret," said Ambrosio at the time. "It was really nice to participate. It was surprising because, for such a long time, designers were only using girls that weren't so sexy, whose bodies were less curvy. People were interested in the known faces on the runway," said the 29 year old. "We've all been working for such a long time and the more you work, the more confidence you have. You can relax, smile more, add personality. You walk the way the clothes need to be shown."
After the appreciative reactions from front row editors, it seems more big name "high" fashion houses are taking note too. With Miranda Kerr and Rosie Huntington-Whiteley's profile sky-rocketing too, 2010 is the Victoria Secret girl's year.
