Today, launched a new app, promising to give customers feedback on new looks through their smartphone. Nifty. And because we like anything that simultaneously makes our lives easier AND more stylish, we got to thinking, what other dream apps could improve our fashion lives no end? Developers, read on and get inventing.
Can I Get Away With…?
We’ve all been there, in front of the mirror, stumped. We are probably very late at this point, dodging calls from irate boss/boyfriend/dentist due to said lateness, having spent the previous half an hour searching our souls, lost in anguish over that one burning question: ‘Can I get away with… jelly shoes with this dress/top-to-toe knits for work/a crop top, ever?’ Enter Can I Get Away With…? Snap a selfie of your outfit, type in the occasion its for, and the app would simply come back with a tick (‘ding!’) or cross (‘eh-urrgh!’) – much like a fashion version of Family Fortunes. Decision made, job/relationship/dental health saved.
Hell Yes, You Can!
An offshoot of the Can I Get Away With…? franchise, this works in the same way, but only gives positive responses. Use when you really do want to wear that risky combo, but just need that final self-esteem boost to get you out the door. Kind of like a pocket-size, less annoying Gok Wan.
Fashion Fruit Machine
Like Cher’s outfit-matching programme at the start of Clueless, only far more exciting. This app stores pictures of all the items in your wardrobe, and spins all the separates to come up with brand new – possibly genius, possibly ill-advised – combos. Simply keep pressing 'nudge' till you get a line-up you like. Or, for the adrenalin junkies, simply commit to the first one it comes up with. You'll, er, make a statement, if nothing else.
Wardrobe Malfunction SOS
Maybe you’re en route to that important meeting, but have just dumped a latte down your crisp white shirt. Or you’re getting changed from your pre-work gym session, but you’ve packed a black bra with your sheer top. Or, horror of horrors, you’ve just sat down to the dreaded ‘r-i-i-i-p’ of a seam. Panic not! Whatever your wardrobe malfunction, this app would swiftly calculate your route to the nearest open store selling Vanish/sewing kits/replacement undies. Our hero!
Price Per Wear Calculator
You love the [insert designer as applicable] statement piece. You feel it may very well hold the key to your happiness in life. But oh, the price… It is at this point you would whip out your Price Per Wear Calculator. Based on a pic of the item of desire, this clever app would perform a complex set of calculations, formulas and algorithms to determine all possible settings in which you could wear it (weddings, dates, work meetings, the supermarket, your sofa…), and determine that actually your Marc Jacobs jacket will cost you a mere 59p per outing. Guilt eased – eternal happiness here you come!
