The V&As latest Fashion in Motion show takes place today so ELLE caught up with the design duo Fyodor Golan whose designs are on show to hear about their latest collection.
What was the inspiration behind your latest collection?
The book Blue Tattoo provided initial inspiration for the collection. It tells the true story of a Victorian girl and her incredible personal survival story. We also referenced the film The Holy Mountain by Alejandro Jodorowsky as a key spiritual backdrop combining elements of enlightenment, lightness, heat, sexuality, tradition, organic prints and transformation.
Describe the Fyodor Golan aesthetic
Initially everything comes through art for us. We both come from fine art backgrounds and spend the majority of our time drawing and painting our prints and embroideries. Our collection focuses on a purity of form, fluid lines and shapes combined with texture.
What kind of woman do you design for? Do you have a muse?
We design for women who are emotionally strong and like to express themselves, who are not afraid to explore all sides of their personalities. Marilyn Monroe is always on our wall of inspiration, she was full of such passion and melancholy.
It feels incredible, were honored. The V&A almost feels like a second home to us, it is a wonderful place to explore and find inspiration as a designer.
What do you like about London and British culture?
London is full of energy. It is a city for the young and a place for adventures. It is a home to new ideas and change.
