Surely Sarah Burton deserves a holiday more than most today. The McQueen designer has spent the past few months frantically creating The Dress for Kate Middleton, now Duchess of Cambridge, so you could have forgiven her for putting her feet up now that the wedding of the year is done and dusted. But this weekend she instead hopped onto a plane and crossed the Atlantic for last night's Met Ball.
It's no surprise that she made the effort - the Ball marked the opening of an exhibition that pays tribute to her late friend and mentor, Alexander McQueen, and Burton was chosen to speak about him at the launch press conference yeasterday. She said, 'When I walked into the exhibition I thought of Lee. The emotion, passion and attention to detail that was in everything that he did. I'm very proud to have worked for him. He truly was a genius.'
Hitting the red carpet later in the evening she was dressed elegantly in a white dress of her own design - perhaps all that wedding business has been influencing her own wardrobe too.More
