Why walk down the high street when you can click your way across the fashion universe?
Enticed by ease and instant gratification, more than a third of British consumers have bought clothes online over the past 12 months35%, up from 26% the previous year.
British shoppers spent £4.3bn on online clothing purchases last year, representing 10.2% of the total clothing retail market, reported market research group Mintel. That represents 152% growth from five years earlier, meaning that the online clothing market has more than doubled in value. The researchers forecast that the market will be continue to attract spending, growing to £4.8bn by the end of the year.
Whats getting shoppers to embrace online? Its a blend of more sophisticated interfaces, new groups of retailers taking to the web (Gap, Zara and H&M have all added transactional sites over the past year), and rising broadband subscriptions, Mintel says.
Chances are, anyone reading this is well aware of the joys of online shopping already. We certainly are.
