The Little House of Rodarte

Chelsea's most prestigious art gallery hosted the show. Kanye West held court from the front row. Anna Dello Russo filmed her new reality series outside, while Tavi came along accompanied by her dad. It's fair to say that Rodarte was a hot ticket this New York fashion week.

Of course, the Mulleavy sisters always put on a pretty good show - you can expect a conceptual stage setting, a cool celebrity presence and a majorly dramatic finale. But none of these things were important for AW11. Instead, the duo focused only on their clothes. And oh, what clothes they were! Influenced by nature - or a kind of Little House On The Prairie idea of it - they seemed folksy, turned out in fabric the colour of ripe wheat, with homespun knits and hand-done quilting embroidery. Floor-sweeping dresses were covered by long coats, layered over other skirts, layered under aprons tops or pinafores. The feeling was slightly sentimental but serene, more wearable than usual yet just as inspired.
