Leather, leather and more leather. You'd probably expect a Diesel show to focus on denim, right? Isn't that what they do? But the Black Gold line, by the British-based designer Sophia Kokosalaki, is where the brand carries out experiments, continuing its heritage of interesting fabric treatment and development.
With Vanessa Hudgens and Chace Crawford sitting front row, in the same vast riverside show space that Alexander Wang took over earlier in the week, Black Gold - offering both men's and womenswear - had a certain Western flair. Though there were also military and heritage inspirations, the carefully aged leathers in soft, faded colours suggested desert dust. Fringed saddle bags, snakeskin prints, wooden heel boots and metal eagle ornaments on shoes and satchels added to the effect.
The show's stand-outs were just great pieces, though, regardless of trend or theme: soft suede jackets, high-necked aran cardigans paired with asymmetric chiffon skirts and really great reversible shearlings.More
