If you missed your 6am wake up call to get to the GAP flagship store at 7am on Saturday for their Valentino launch, then you may have missed the boat. It took serious determination to get hold of one of the seven Valentino for GAP designs; some withstood the zero degree temperatures and slept outside, many others got to the shop before 8am. By 9.30 am every last piece had been sold. "We were thrilled with the overwhelming response from customers to our Valentino for Gap collaboration," a spokesman from GAP said this morning, "people were waiting outside when we opened and we had over one thousand customers through our doors before 10am."
Over at Dover Street Market, the only stockist in London apart from the Oxford Street flagship, all pieces sold out within twenty minutes of the store opening, leaving even those shoppers who'd sacrificed a Saturday lie-in empty handed. The most popular pieces at both retailers were the long ruffled parka, and khaki jodhpurs, which were the first to sell out. Unsurprisingly, these styles have made a quick transition from the high street to ebay, where opportunistic shoppers have wasted little time in marking them up and re-selling at up to £279 for a parka originally priced at £119.
The good news is that there is one last delivery currently being distributed across the shop floor this morning. Going by Saturday's run, you have about twenty minutes to secure a piece from it.More
