There have been a lot of rumours circulating over the past few weeks about designers being fired, moving fashion houses and retiring. We don't know how many of them are true but throughout them all a pattern seems to have emerged - we think that Olivier Theyskens may be the most in demand designer in the industry.
Hint magazine has reported that the designer has turned down jobs at both Valentino and Dior (which he apparently refused twice). A few weeks ago there was speculation that he'd been approached about taking over from Stefano Pilati at YSL (although Pilati has apparently signed another three year contract with the label so we know that's not true.) And this morning the internet is abuzz with rumours that Oscar de la Renta is set to retire soon due to ill health and that Theyskens has been approached to take over. And refused. Apparently because he's holding out until Alber Elbaz leaves Lanvin and he can take over.
There's no doubt that the fashion crowd is itching to see Theyskens installed in a new job. Ever since he left Nina Ricci back in March last year his talent has been sorely missed on the fashion week schedule.
