Sarah Jessica Parker, in town for Alexander McQueens memorial yesterday, Alexa Chung, Poppy Delevigne and the unlikely figure of Andy Murray sat front row surrounded by various male Burberry models and musicians.
There was a lot of buzz surrounding the show. Designer Christopher Bailey had been tweeting earlier in the week, asking his 51,000 followers if he should use antique rose or chestnut (antique rose won), and it was the third highest trending topic on Twitter.
There was lots of hype about his soundtrack (The Feeling, Euryhthmics, Roger Daltrey, CD available from today). And Burberry chief executive Angela Ahrendts said yesterday that business was booming with the weak pound giving our fashion industry a huge boost. Chinese visitors to the UK now account for a third of Burberrys sales. So there were lots of foreign eyes watching the live stream and placing their orders immediately.
But what about the clothes? Burberrys outerwear heritage is at its core and this hasnt changed. Peplum, patent, sleeveless, leather strip styles and biker trench dresses were shown with leather motorcross leggings and skirts. For evening there are inch-thick gold studded and python numbers. All stunningly desirable.
