Spiga2 is something of a departure for a high end fashion brand. Rather than fill the rails of their new Milan boutique exclusively with their own wares, Domenico Dolce and Steffano Gabbana have scoured the globe for fabulous, new and undiscovered designers, and stocked them alongside their own accessories collection. In a statement today the two designers described their ambitions for the store:
"We wanted to create a new, special place, unique in the world. With this project we give the emerging designers we have handpicked from all over the world visibility, offering them a real opportunity".
Spiga 2, which opens in time for Milan Fashion Week, will also be designed to encourage leisurely perusing; a sociable space which will include internet access points and activities. It will also have a constantly updated roster of designers, aimed at providing exposure for those at the beginnings of the fashion ladder, from those at the very top; something that is increasingly a priority for Dolce & Gabbana: "Now more than ever before, what matters to us is finding the balance between ethics aesthetics".More
