This season Alice Temperley is showing in New York to introduce the market to her diffusion line, Alice by Temperley. 'I'm having fun with Alice', said the designer at her presentation, 'it's been great to include the leather jackets and dresses and open up the Temperley label to a different person.' Temperley is many Brits go-to label for that special occasion dress but with steep prices and less disposable income, it's a canny move to venture in to a different price bracket with Alice.
Nevertheless, it's still Temperley proper that shoppers crave given the choice. For Spring/Summer 2011, Guinevere and the legend of King Arthur is the inspiration behind the mainline collection. Hooded chain mail knit dresses and steely coloured ruffle dresses dominate. It's a more directional line and one that might put off those in search of a wedding guest dress but is sure to please fashion editors in search of a 'story' and the risk-taking high earners.
