Today the fashion world is in despair as it learned that Joanna Sykes is to temporarily close her much-loved label, Sykes. The reason? She is the newly appointed design director of Aquascutum and wants to focus on getting her debut collection for the brand just right. She will still create bespoke pieces for some lucky key clients, but most of us will have to go without.
Before we start panicking about what on earth we're going to wear come next spring, we interrupted Joanna's much-deserved holiday in Portugal to find out more. She told us, 'It's a really hard decision to make when you've put your heart and soul into building something from scratch. But I'm a very hands on, meticulous, precise person and I have a huge job to do at Aquascutum that I really want to focus on. It's a brand that I think is really in line with my aesthetic and I feel like I'm putting a lot of myself into it at the moment. It's so brilliant and full of lovely people and I really want to make the most of this amazing opportunity.'
So there we have it. We'll have to be patient as Joanna's first collection for Aqauscutum isn't due to be unveiled until next February. But, in the meantime, stock up on Sykes pieces while you still can - the autumn buys are due to drop in stores any minute.More
