In a move sure to set the hearts of logo-conscious mothers everywhere a-flutter, Gucci yesterday launched its first childrenswear line.

The collection smartens up the children's category with Gucci symbols including the horse bit, double G monogram and iconic Flora print. Clothes, shoes, scarves, ties, belts, jewellery and sunglasses for children up to eight years old will be available in Gucci boutiques from November. The baby collection also includes gift items - blankets, hats and bibs.

During the official launch in Florence, the luxury brand also made a $1 million pledge to UNICEF's Schools for Africa programme.
