This will present a unique opportunity to invest in two of the show-stopping, exquisitely crafted gowns that the late designer created for his 2007 Salem collection. This was inspired by distant relatives of McQueen, who were involved in the witch trials of 1692, among them Elizabeth How; one of the women hanged at the time.
The more extravagantly embellished of the two, a sculpted golden column dress, is expected to reach between £12,000 and £18,000 at Bonhams, while a gold, feathery bodiced gown with echoes of Cleopatra and inspired by Ancient Egypt, the pyramids and the worship of the sun and the moon is likely to sell for between £10,000 and £14,000.
Holly Valance famously wore McQueens column dress to the Brit Awards shortly after the designers death in February and it is expected to generate great interest at the sale. The auction opens on June 30th at 1pm www.bonhams.com
