Rumours have been flying that the British designer would be making a move to the fashion house ever since he was spotted lunching with its management team last month. Now Emanuel Ungaro has confirmed that it has recruited him as its latest creative director.
The team behind Ungaro will be hoping that Deacon will be able to transform the fortunes of the troubled fashion house. After the disastrous appointment of Lindsay Lohan as artistic director and the swift departure in quick succession of two creative directors, Esteban Cortazar and Estrella Archs, it's fair to say that the label has been the talk of the fashion crowd for all the wrong reasons. But hopefully not for much longer.
The appointment is Deacon's first as the head of a major fashion house. He is currently based in Paris with his eponymous label which he will continue to design his own line alongside his job at Ungaro. He told WWD, 'I obviously dont want to infringe upon my own line, but I like things that are very feminine, lots of color, great prints, great quality, some unusual cuts. All of those things that I like in the world of fashion design Im going to bring to what I feel is appropriate for the Ungaro woman.'
Deacon's debut collection for the label will be presented in Paris in October.More
