Isabel Marant's new store; plus, show review

It's a tad irksome that New York beats London to a standalone store. Despite not being able to lay claim to discovering the label, the Brits have a die-hard affinity with the Marant brand. Its mix and match, easy cool aesthetic is the holy grail of London style.

Having previously channelled the 80s, Marant's girls with their swinging ponytails, cats eyeliner and kitten heels were 50s through and through. Full of attitude and rebellion, here was the first generation of the teenager. Leather biker jackets, red leather jeans rolled up at the ankle, mohair jumper dresses and sequin cigarette pants with huge glittering discs kept on coming to drive home the movement.

If you don't want to follow the grown-up sensibilities on offer from the majority of designers for Autumn Winter 2010, Marant's gang will offer welcome repose. But you'll have to do the kitten heel...
