To celebrate the launch, Hussein Chalayan yesterday showed three short films - Aeroplane Dress, Ventriloquy, and Compassion Fatigue - focussing on his most iconic collections and innovative designs. While the short films were older- made between 1999 and 2005- they highlighted his depth as a designer and his avant-garde style, demonstrating how far fashion can push boundaries.
Beautiful yet provocative, they dealt with issues such as the breakdown of values during times of war and the creation of nature through artifice. The mix of computer-generated and handmade films showed that away from the endless stream of shows and parties, there is something else out there.
Building on the rebellious and pioneering reputation that London has gained from the likes of Vivienne Westwood and Alexander McQueen, the digital schedule is set to push London fashion into a new era. And today, ELLEuk.com took it one step further with a live streaming of the Burberry show.More
